| We are a community of people residing in Victoria, British Columbia on Canada's beautiful west coast. Our collective lifestyle is built upon shared values, yet we each carry within us individual hope, dreams and aspirations. The Shekinah philosophy embraces the potential of human life and the spirit of community.
Shekinah means
“the dwelling place of god or the Beloved.” It is an expression of our essential nature that is reflected in our Vision and Mission. If you would like to serve from the heart, make new friends, and explore Canadian culture; learn more about becoming a Shekinah Homes Assistant at Our Assistants.
Shekinah Homes Society (formerly L'Arche Victoria) has been providing homes and following the teachings of Jean Vanier in Victoria , for over thirty years. We support fourteen Core Members (adults with developmental and physical disabilities) in four family-model homes. Assistants (Caregivers) and Core Members live together in an intentional community where we joyfully celebrate humanity and spirituality. We believe that our Core Members should have the same opportunities and rights enjoyed by all citizens of British Columbia .
Currently we have undertaken an ambitious project of replacing our non-accessible homes with new, purpose-built homes in Victoria's Gorge area that will fit the needs of our Core Members and Assistants into the future so they may age in place. Perhaps there is a place for you at Shekinah Homes Society? There are occasional openings for Assistants, Home Coordinators, Staff Members and Relief Workers. Are you interested in Volunteering? Would you like to become a member of our Board of Directors? If so, please Contact Us directly. We invite you to explore this site to learn more.
